At Danica our focus is on innovation and developing new ways of communicating with crew. We’re streamlining our online recruitment process to make applying for a job as easy as ordering a pizza!
Danica was founded back in 2013 when our founder – Henrik Jensen, CEO – saw a need for a high-quality crewing service provider to connect highly competent seafarers with demanding shipping companies. We thought then that there should be a better way for shipping companies to maintain their pool of seafarers and to engage with new crew.
To ensure the quality and competence of our crew, we implemented a strict 12-step screening process for all new hands. Today our clients are still benefiting from this stringent selection process and we’re able to ensure only the best possible seafarers are joining their vessels.
Over the years Danica has screened thousands of seafarers. In some cases we’ve uncovered fake CVs and certificates, and we’ve prevented unqualified and untrustworthy seafarers from joining our high-quality owners’ vessels, thereby safeguarding their assets.
We know our strategy is right and we can prove it: today Danica delivers crew members to more than 250 vessels owned by more than 40 first-class shipping companies around the world.
We continue to innovate and improve our processes to ensure we meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s shipping industry. In a competitive marketplace where top talent is in demand and the best seafarers can choose where they want to work, Danica is at the forefront of crew recruitment, crew retention, and crew management.
Streamlining our screening process through the use of new digital tools, algorithms and AI, means we are now offering an enhanced experience to applicants. Our fast-track approach includes only collecting a few key elements of data from the applicants at the initial stage, rather than requesting their entire sea service since a cadet! This reduces the load for the applicants considerably and encourages them to go through the process to join us. We also tell them instantly if they qualify for the vacancy or suggest other vacancies to them instead. We also communicate directly with applicants using WhatsApp, which significantly increases the response rate to our vacancies.
By giving the applicants a much better experience in this way we are able to engage with 10 times the number of prospective candidates and within hours we get 100s of engagements with applicants.
Of course, we still maintain a very human face which we believe is important. Our global team of recruiters follow up from the initial screening phase for all candidates, usually in their own language. We also conduct interviews via our recruitment captains and chief engineers who have experience from similar vessel types and are able to knowledgably screen candidates.
Danica CEO Henrik Jensen explains: “At Danica we are proud to be successfully combining innovation and technology with human interaction. We believe we’re striking the right balance and our results show we’re right. At Danica, we do crewing differently – and that’s just what the industry needs.”
