We are often asked by potential clients, who are considering including Ukraine in their crew sourcing strategy, whether the country has sufficient capacity in the maritime education system.
We are happy to advise that Ukraine boasts several quality maritime colleges and universities offering maritime training to high standards, all in compliance with STCW standards as well as EMSA approved.
The largest of these education institutions is the National University Odessa Maritime Academy with some 12,000 students – the largest maritime educational facility in Europe and, possibly, the world!
Seafaring is a great tradition in Ukraine, particular Odessa, and continues to be a very attractive career path for young people, providing good salaries and career opportunities.
No surprise therefore that members of ICS and BIMCO recently identified Ukraine as the most important future crew source in the Seafarer Workforce Report 2021.
Danica receives many enquiries about sourcing seafarers in Ukraine and we are always pleased to assist companies who are considering including Eastern European seafarers in their crew pools.
